Blood Diamond part 2
Well I did it, I went to see the Movie Blood Diamond, some of you may remember that I wrote prior about this film and the dumb act that the Warner Brothers did in making this film. But due to so many good reviews I did go see the film. The movie it self could have done a better job of developing the characters and such, but it had a story to tell about the perpetuating of civil wars and evil that consumerism in the west creates. It was a story that was worth telling and I think it should make anyone think twice before buying a shiny rock. There has been groups though that were speaking out on CBC report that this movie may potentially hurt some of the stable nations like Sierra Leone who has a legal export of diamonds 'today' and that people may not buy them due to worry of blood diamonds and this can hurt their economic progress and cause the country to spiral into civil unrest. Others have suggested that the film made a false view of people of Sierra Leone. There is a lot to consider when buying a diamond and there are some ways to research where your diamond comes from, although the movie does suggest that many of the 'dirty' (blood diamonds) diamonds are hidden and filed away with 'clean' diamonds and so tracking them would be impossible. So there was a lot to think about at the end of the movie, so because of that I think this film is worth seeing and telling others about.
