Hango meets Nicaragua part 2...

Well Ryan has returned from Nicaragua, and has shared some sweet stories and experiences, he is also going to be showing us power-point and sharing with us in March about his trip so we are looking forward to this, here is a teaser of some pictures from the trip:There is an awesome story that Ryan tells about the pet monkey that went crazy one day and was totally out of control, the next day it was gone, and they were eating 'new' meat, which they asked if it was beef, pork, goat, to all the questions they were simply told no with no explanation, which to them it wildly indicated that they are eating the monkey they petted only a day ago...awesome... where in Canada can you have a pet monkey and when it gets out of control simply cook it...amazing! If you want to hear more, Ryan will be sharing in youth in March!

Is This Jesus's Tomb...

The news that Jesus' tomb may have been found has been circling news papers internet and TV for few days now...reading the articles and hearing the arguments from both sides, this really reminded me of the movie called THE BODY, in which same situation occurs where a tomb of a rich man is found with a crucified body in it, from the time of 34 AD, and the church investigates this and many become disillusioned in their faith, some suicides happen and movie goes on to investigate what our faith hinges on...this life story of the tomb really reminded of this.

We the people are moved by mystery the unknown, the scandalous we are intrigued we are full of the what if questions, so with that in mind and this story I like to quote Rob Bell who says: "We have to test everything [including our own faith]...test it. Probe it...Don't swallow in uncritically. Think about it. Wrestle with it. Just because I'm a Christian and I'm trying to articulate a Christian worldview doesn't mean I've got it nailed. I'm contributing to the discussion. God has spoke, and the rest is commentary, right?"

Women-only Island...

Leave it to Iran, to create women-only Island...read the news story here.

Some quotes from Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell

Reading Velvet Elvis here are some quotes that I am liking:

"A Christian doesn't avoid the questions; a Christian embraces them. In fact, to truly pursue the living God, we have to see the need for questions."

"What's disturbing is when people talk more about hell after this life than they do about hell here and now. As a Christian, I want to do what I can to resist hell coming to earth. Poverty, injustice, suffering- they are all hells on earth and as Christians we oppose them with all our energies."

"I cannot lead people somewhere I am not trying to go myself."

Beyond the Shadowlands Part 2

Continuing our Youth Sunday School study of Beyond the Shadowlands by Wayne Martindale, we have been moved by the idea that what we do here on earth matters in eternity, every obscure obedience and self giving matters and is in fact a step in us becoming who we are meant to be, truly human...

"And what else are we afraid of? We are afraid of giving up the self. It is true, of course, that we must die to self. It is Jesus himself who calls us to unconditional surrender. He insists on making us perfect. In the final analysis, he won't settle for anything else. But dying to self does not mean the death of self hood. We become more ourselves in Christ. In fact, when we insist on making ourselves the center, the result is pathology."

"In his masterful chapter on "Pride", Lewis suggests that all sins come from this one. Pride is at the bottom of other sins because "it is the complete anti-God state of mind" and is "in competition with everyone else's pride"."

It has been a compelling read and study, more quotes and thoughts to come...

Teenagers Value Marriage

Despite the promiscuous messages found in TV, music, and movies, the prospect of lifelong partnership and marriage is more important to young Americans than having sex according to research by Youthography.

Among Americans aged 14-29:

  • 77.8% viewed “having a lifelong partner” as important
  • 64.2% viewed “getting married” as important
  • 46.1% viewed “having sex” as important

Consider it proof that American young people are serious about learning how to have a healthy marriage and relationships. If you preach it, they will listen.

But another dangerous trend that continues to plague our society and our kids is discussed in the TIME magazine online article a study shows that more and more kids are being exposed to web porn...read the article here. A very important reason to set up family computers in public areas of the house and having parental protections and locks on your computers...

Yes....no wait what?

Some of you know that I have had some opinions on clothing before so here is another one. Honestly! Doesn’t this couple perfectly sum up the way you go to the second-hand store and see something and go, “I can’t believe someone gave this up,” then you wear it once or twice and you’re like, this feels like it’s on sideways.” Then you get rid of it and donate it to Value Village...and a week later no lie, you see some one in town wearing it like they have found the diamond in the rough.
