Consumerism...

I have enjoyed the work of the British Artist Bansky for a while, now here is an excellent piece describing the Western (maybe my own) worship of Consumerism:

the preoccupation with wanting purchase goods at the expense of what? what is the amount of goods which it is moral to acquire?

I suppose in a small post like my post is/was, some of those things could be implied in to it. But my post is not about how much you can aquire or not aquire, which are moral and which products are not, that is not what I was getting at, nor was Bansky.

In Bansky's piece and in my own thinking the post was about obsession with products, objects. These objects becoming the focal point of life, ie. "If I only have that great TV or car I will feel better"... This condition commonly known as Affluenza. And as wikipidea describes it:

"Proponents of the term consider the costs of prizing material wealth vastly outweigh the benefits. They claim those who become wealthy will find the economic success leaving them unfulfilled and hungry for more wealth."

I think that this preoccupation with materialism neglects social justice. Anyways hopefully that helped you see my train of thought here. Thanks for stopping by.
